More about the university decision-making project

This research project, completed in February 2022, was based on an online quantitative survey of 300 teachers/careers advisers of Year 10, 11, 12 and 13 students and a two-day online research community, recruiting 32 teachers to share their thoughts experiences and views in more depth.

It explores how teachers influence young people, and provides fresh intelligence about teachers’ knowledge, concerns and information needs to help universities better engage with and support this key group.

As well as the full research findings, insights and evidence from the primary research project, the full 66-page report includes an executive summary, practical recommendations, comparisons between the 2019 and 2022 survey data for relevant comparable questions, demographic analysis and cross-tabulation . The 55-page appendices include raw charts for the full breakdown of data from the survey questions. With your purchase, you will also receive a copy of the recorded results and action workshop which took place online in March 2022 with the participating university partners.

Report contents include:

  • What are teachers thinking and saying about university applications for 2022 and beyond?
  • What are teachers’ biggest concerns about university for their students, and how can you provide reassurance?
  • How can you fill the gaps in teachers’ knowledge regarding the university experience beyond Covid-19
  • How do teachers want to engage with universities right now, what are their  information needs given time pressures and uncertainties?
