Library Life Pulse is a student and academic staff insight survey that helps university libraries to understand the changing needs, behaviours and experiences of their users. Our community of members use the intelligence and insight from the Pulse to drive positive changes in their services, and increase their impact on students’ lives.
Libraries are a critical focal point for students throughout their university journey and a vital resource for staff. As the Higher Education sector continues to face change at an unprecedented pace, libraries that respond to changing user needs will play a vital role in enhancing the student experience and outcomes at their university.

How does the Pulse work?
At the heart of the Library Life Pulse is an online, customisable, library user experience survey designed by student experience experts working in partnership with university libraries. The questionnaire covers your main user groups including undergraduate students, postgraduate taught students, postgraduate researchers and academic staff.
One of the key benefits of Library Life Pulse is that the modular questionnaire can be tailored to your users and aligned with your strategic priorities. At the core of the Pulse we cover the following key areas:
What reporting options are there?
We offer increasingly advanced reporting depending on the level of package you choose. All our packages include full access to the raw data and your headline results presented in a visual report. The core package offers more advanced anaytcics.
The Pulse is available in three packages: light, core and enhanced. The packages mean there is an option suitable for any library, irrespective of your size and budget. Please contact us for more information about pricing using the contact details below.
Which Libraries are members and what are the community benefits?
Alterline’s unique collaborative model brings universities together to work on common challenges and build communities of innovative practice. Joining the Pulse community means you will have access to opportunities to network, share ideas and build links with other institutions at Pulse workshops. Each year, we’ll produce a benchmarking report showing your core results against other community members to facilitate shared learning.
The following university libraries have been part of the first year of the Pulse.
